DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Edible art. That’s Cindy Dankwa creates.
"My cakes are edible art and each takes a lot of studying, time and execution," said Douglasville Resident Cindy Danka, Cindyrella Cakes owner. "I cater to all events including weddings, birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers, office parties and more."
Whether it’s a special, life-like violin cake for a birthday, a beautiful, traditional wedding cake for that once-in-a-lifetime day, or a Depends cake to get a chuckle from guests, Dankwa says she has no limits when it comes to cakes.
"I keep learning and challenging myself," she said. "My cakes are created one at a time."
Dankwa’s Cindyrella Cakes is a home-based Douglasville business that started six years ago, as Just Rum Cakes LLC. Dankwa has lived in Douglasville for two years after moving with her husband and two children from Austell. She attended Brookwood High School in Gwinnett. Then went to UGA for her Undergrad and Capella University for her Masters.
"I got requests for other cakes so I changed the name to Cindyrella Cakes LLC," she said. "So I broadened my services to include custom cupcakes, cakepops, cookies and other treats."
Dankwa said her husband and kids are her biggest supporters but the business can still be a challenge.
"It’s a definitely a challenge working, scheduling meetings and tastings around my life because I have non traditional hours but it also means that I can accommodate my clients," she said. "The reward is seeing my dream become a reality. I left my full time job in July 2017 after working towards my dream on a part time basis and building my clients. Seeing a client’s reaction to my creation is very fulfilling.
"I’ve always had the support of my friends and family," she said. "I’ve missed many events and have had many sleepless nights working, but I wouldn’t change anything. My greatest achievement is leaving my full-time job to work for myself full-time. It hasn’t been easy but it’s paid off. Winning 2018 couples choice award from Wedding Wire definitely set the tone for the year. The people of Douglasville have been very supportive, and I’m very thankful."
